Amazing things
Just in case you find yourself here as a result of following a link from Matt’s site, welll … there’s not much amazing stuff going on here. In fact, it’s amazing if I get round to updating my personal blog ;-) No, he’s referring to Accessify, my accessibility site. Most of the cool stuff is in the tools and wizards section or the favelets page, so go wander over there. Alternatively, scroll down this page and see if anything here takes your fancy. Saddam’s PDA perhaps. Or maybe a cute photo of a doggie. Ah whatever - the choice is yours!
But while I was in updating mood, and given that Matt has recently posted on his site about achieving something like tenth place in a Google search result for Matt, I thought I’d try the same - A Google search for ‘Ian’. I was surprised - I actually came in within the top 100! Didn’t expect that at all.
And also while I’m here, a few links I’ve chanced upon over the last week or two:
- Jakob Nielsen Declares the Letter "C" Unusable - A very Onion-like piece. If you know who Jakob is, you’ll read it and weep.
- Bush and Blair sing Endless Love - The art of clever video editing demonstrating brilliantly. You will love this one!
- 1 pixel per metre - Actually most of this is pretty nerdy (hello, Star Trek fans - I gather you’re wetting yourselves right now over the Excelsior picture?) but like the title suggests - each metre is represented by 1 pixel. Very cool graphics. Whether anyone can attest to the actual height of King Kong is slightly dubious though.
- db-db - A really weird designers’ site, not unlike Design is Kinky or K10K
- Pixelmuseum - A collection of some of the finest pixellated artwork on the web.
- Dogs in Cars - Yep, that’s right, someone’s bothered to put a whole site together dedicated just to pictures of dogs. In cars. That’s it.
- Snopes - Urban legends - a one-stop resource! Find out if it’s true, if it’s just an urban legend and what have you. Front page is a bit daunting, so try the what’s new page instead.
In case you’re interested … am currently listening to: Portishead, The Streets, Madonna, and Avril Lavigne.
What is a Skystrator?

That is my question to the people at Sky News. I spotted this about a week ago, while the TV stations were covering the assault on Basra. Presumably it’s a ‘Sky News Demonstrator’ … but hey, that’s just not sexy enough, is it?
It all reminds me of an episode of ‘The Day Today’, a BBC2 comedy by Chris Morris. In one episode, the news room is transformed at the drop of a hat into a hub of war reporting in the cheesiest manner you could think of. In fact, in the same episode, the programme makers offer a video of the highlights of their war coverage. You get the idea. Anyway, other people evidently had the same idea, because I never saw it being referred to as a ‘Skystrator’ again. Somebody saw sense.
In other news …

My world clock now looks like hotel lobby clocks the world over. Honestly, I really do know people in those timezones, and I am keen to know what time it is where they are, as it lets me know whether I’m likely to get responses from e-mails the same day. I’m not just trying to be flash ;-)
