dConstruct06 - Social events [updated]

[Update] Heist it is! For Thursday night …

Just a quick post to find out what plans people have for socalising at dConstruct. I’m arriving sometime on the Thursday evening but am not staying on after the event on Friday so I’d be interested to find out if there’s anything arranged for that Thursday or if any groups have arranged to meet somewhere nearby. Please do let me know what you’re planning to do by adding a note or two in the comments here. Thanks :-)

I’m in the same boat as you. There are a couple of us arriving from Ireland on Thursday evening (arriving Gatwick 8.30). We’re staying in the Premier Travel Inn might be convinced to have a pint or two in Brighton. Anyone else up for it?

I’m on. I’ll arrive on Thursday, too, and was thinking of having dinner plus a few beers with some fellow geeks. Let me know what you’re planning.

The Pub Standards “crew” (pubstandards.co.uk) were thinking about meeting up on the Thursday. I know a lot of us are coming down during the day or after work (in my case).

Not sure where we’ll go yet!

Beer sounds good! Let me know what you are upto - I can recommend some good drinking establishments!

I’m getting the train down Thursday from Manchester and am staying at the Travelodge. A pint sounds great on Thursday night. I don’t know Brighton at all and I don’t know anyone at dConstruct, but it would be really great to meet up with some people anyway!

I’ll be in Brighton from Thursday as well, and though I’m not too fond of beer and my geek rating is low low low, I’d love to tag along if you have any ideas for dinner and/or drinks.

Right now, I’m not planning anything - I’m not familiar with Brighton, don’t know where the hotel I’m staying in is in relation to anywhere else and am not sure what time I’m arriving, but my hope was that if a few people posted plans/ideas here eventually a theme might emerge.

What we need is a Brighton resident to step in and suggest something (nudge nudge)

Didn’t Jeremy Keith say he was wanting social events to happen on the Thursday on the dConstruct podcast? I can’t remember exactly, but maybe we should see if there is a kind of official/unofficial get-together social meetup organised.

Aye. Was thinking the same. Count me in (if your counting) and if anyone has any ideas about where to go I guess most of us invaders will just follow them!

I’m coming down Thursday with my partner. Don’t know anyone attending dConstruct, so would love to meet up.

I’m a Brighton resident, and happy to step up and organize the drinking!

I’d suggest meeting somewhere vaguely central on the Thursday night, such as Hope (a bar on the road, down from the station, on the right) - from there the food+drinking can begin!

I’d suggest a nicer pub, but I’m thinking of something easy to find to begin with!

I’ll be around for some beer and socialising on the Thursday.

I was going to be all unsociable and sneak in on the morning, but all this talk of beer is making me thirsty!

I’m flying in from Cork too and would definitely be up for a few sociable scoops on Thursday.

I’ll be getting wined and dined at the speakers’ dinner on Thursday evening (woo-hoo!), but I’m definitely up for beers afterwards.

I agree that somewhere central would be best and I’ve been racking my brains trying to think of somewhere that’s central and nice. Here’s my suggestion: The Earth and Stars.

You’ll find it listed on the d.Construct location page, under the Free WiFi heading: http://2006.dconstruct.org/location/

It’s a nice place, it’s got WiFi, it has organic beer(!), and it’s quite central. They also very nice food:

I’m not sure how late they serve food ’till, though.

Oh, and they get extra accessibility brownie points:

They have an upstairs room that can be reserved (for no charge, if I recall). We had a Firefox one year anniversary party there… yeah, we’re geeks. If it looks like there’s going to be enough people to warrant booking the room, and somebody wants to organise it, the number is 01273 722 879.

OK, the Earth and Stars it is.

I’ll arrive in Brighton around 18:30, so I’ll be at the pub between 19:00 and 19:30, and I hope some to meet some other people there. Everybody who’s already there by that time will have the ineffable honour of watching me eat my dinner.

    See you!

*Update* We’ve booked the downstairs room in Heist (http://www.brightonlife.com/brighton/pubs/heist-100718.php) for the Thursday night.
