Good PR?

Apparently it’s not the done thing to talk about Google and something that rhymes with ‘Rage Bank’ or ‘Age Prank’ and has initials of ‘PR’. So I won’t. But you all know what I’m saying …
Anyways, what’s a PR9 – whatever that means, I wouldn’t know – worth these days? In terms of advertising, y’know? And if you do know, perhaps you could drop me a line … or meet me by the carpark under cover of night with a suspicious brown package under your arm. Keyword is ‘Mavis’.

Shhh. I didn’t say this, but I know what it’s supposed to mean. To the best of my knowledge Rage Bank or whatever is measured by the numeric range of in-bound links. Google uses this as part of their search algorithm to determine relevance. If two sites publish an article which would be found by like search terms, for example, Google will typically place the site with the higher page rank above the other assuming it’s more relevant. From a marketing/advertising standpoint, because people “Google” stuff nowadays, having a high, ahem, Age Prank can help one be found. At least that’s my understanding of it. It’s probably abused to a certain extent, but having a high ranking can be a good thing. I have a Firefox extension which shows your site as an 8… this means you’re not irrelevant, Ian. This is a good thing.

Well Ashley, I got offered the deal of the century – a whole $60 per month, paid for a year in advance! Well, you can imagine what I thought about that ‘generous’ offer ;-)

Wow, that’s the same as google itself! I’ve only seen one site with a 10: Microsoft.
