Having read numerous books and seen many TV documentaries about alternative theories for Egypt's history, I decided that my first holiday abroad should be in this most interesting of countries. I felt that to really appreciate what I was reading about, to really get an understanding of the colossal sizes of some of the historical sites, I truly had to see them for myself.

My friends thought I was nuts - diving in at the deep end, and all that for my first trip abroad - but I was sure this was going to be an experience I would not easily forget.
